Guy Carleton Rickerson was born circa 1774 at Norwich, New London Co, Connecticut.2 He married Elizabeth (-----) before 1807.3 Guy Carleton Rickerson began military service on 29 October 1811 at Sackets Harbor, Jefferson Co, New York, He served aboard the U.S. Brig Oneida, which was built at Oswego, New York 1808-09, under contract awarded by her first commanding officer, Lieutenant M.T. Woolsey. The Oneida operated principally from Sackett's Harbor, NY, not far from the commencement of the St. Lawrence River, while the British port of Kingston lay nearly opposite in Canada.4 He drowned on 20 May 1813 at Oswego Harbor. A letter the family supposedly received from ship's captain stated he was swept overboard during a storm and drowned when he was struck by the ship. The letter, if it existed, has been lost to the family. The Oneida's muster roll indicates he was discharged.5
