Nelson Rickerson was also known as Nelson Forton. He was born on 6 February 1843 at New York.² He began military service on 1 November 1861 at Watertown, Jefferson Co, New York, served as a private in Co. G, 94th NY Infantry.² He died on 13 March 1862 at nr. Tivoli, Dutchess Co, New York, at age 19; on Hudson River Railway. Train ran off the track on the way to the front. The car in which he was travelling went through the ice on the river.¹
