Having missed the eight o'clock train from Youngsville to Pittsfield, Miss Rickerson, in company with Mrs. Felman and Mrs. Ftotz, started to walk from Youngsville to their homes in Pittsfield. While walking along the road they noticed an Italian who started to follow them, they became frightened and ran.
Upon nearing Thatchor's crossing of the P.R.R. the women saw a light engine coming East. Miss Rickerson, the younger of the three women, said she was going to beat the engine to the crossing and started running faster than her friends.
The young lady disappeared in the darkness and when her friends arrived at the crossing she was nowhere to be seen. Not knowing of the accident and believing she had run on ahead the other women started to hurry, but when they did not overtake their friend, they called her name and not receiving an answer they became apprehensive and went to the home of A.P. Anderson, who lives near the crossing. Mr. Andersxon returned with the women to the crossing and after a brief search found the body of Miss Rickerson lying near the tracks. Her skull had been badly crushed and her body was badly mangled.
